NZ Music Artist - Dave Dobbyn



David Joseph Dobbyn is a New Zealand musician, singer-songwriter and record producer.


His style of music is pop and rock.


He was born on 3rd of January 1957 in Auckland.


He was influenced by music from a young age ranging from Irish songs his father listened to, church music from across the road and various radio stations he was able to tune into.


His music career first started in 1975 with school friends in a band called Th Dudes until 1980


After high school he worked 9 months as a bank teller and then went to teachers college, he quit while in Th Dudes


He started out as a guitarist in the band, he had extreme stage fright however he took the role of front man for the song “Be Mine Tonight” in 1978, this song won single of the year in 1979


Dave formed a new band in 1980 called DD Smash until 1986


His solo career started in 1986 until present which started with the soundtrack music for Footrot Flats where he made two hit singles “You Oughta Be In Love” and “Slice Of Heaven” which was recorded with band Herbs


He married his wife Anneliesje in 1983 and they have 2 children


He plays vocals, guitar, piano and bass.


He has won many awards over the years
